Winter Birds

Winter Birds

Winter Birds was formed in the spring of 2022 by Ian Kelly, David Lafleche and Lisa Iwanycki. The Canadian musicians expressed a strong need to create classic folk music, using traditional instruments and songwriting that is centered around the heart. Together they write beautiful, catchy folk songs about heartache, longing and the unconditional love parents have for their children. The group has signed with the label Sunset Hill Music for their new album.

Winter Birds’ music is strong in song structure, full of melodic harmonies and catchy, anthemic choruses. Lyrics are poetic, personal and political. Their voices are all entirely unique as they take turns singing verses, but when the three singers harmonize together, the result is a sonic layer cake that is sweeter than honey. Male and female harmonies sing over ambient organs, guitars, banjos, tambourines and stomp boxes give Winter Birds a timeless sound. The music is inspired by modern folk artists Bon Iver, Ray Lamontagne and Bonnie Light Horseman; however their united voices have classic, vintage appeal reminiscent of popular 1960s and 70s folk groups like Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and Simon & Garfunkle. In these tumultuous times when we are questioning war, screen addiction and the dire need for community, Winter Birds offers something pure and down to earth; something timeless that listeners can share with and feel for years to come.
