Benjamin Deschamps
Benjamin Deschamps is a versatile Montreal musician. Saxophonist, composer, arranger, flautist, clarinetist and teacher, Benjamin emerged by winning the grand prize at the Festi Jazz de Rimouski in 2013 with his Quartet, followed by the launch of his first album "What do we know" in 2014. Named Révélation Radio-Canada Jazz in 2017-18, he also won the TD grand prize at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in 2019. His 4th album, "Augmented Reality", released in 2021, was awarded the Opus Prize for Best Jazz Album in 2023.
As a leader, Benjamin has produced 5 instrumental jazz albums. Touring extensively, he has presented his music many times in Canada, the United States, France, Belgium and Germany.
Holder of a Master's degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University, he is now a lecturer there and teaches the Jazz Arrangement course. Benjamin is a highly sought-after artist on the local and international scene. He has shared his talent alongside renowned jazz artists and groups such as Jacques Kuba Séguin, Rachel Therrien, the Ensemble Charles Trudel, the Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal, the Joe Sullivan Big Band and the Jazzlab Orchestra. He has also toured in 20 countries.
He has also accompanied and recorded with several pop artists, including Jean-Michel Blais, Garou, the production "Forever Gentlemen", the Broadway show "Beautiful: The Music of Carol King", Grégory Charles, Damien Robitaille, Steve Hill, Bernard Adamus, Frédérick de Grandpré and many others.
